LYNCOURT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The suspicious package found in Lyncourt on Monday night was determined to be a vial of uranium with radiological levels that were not hazardous.
On Monday, before 7 p.m., the package found shut down a section of Schaffer Avenue while crews worked to determine if it was harmful.
A HAZMAT team, firefighters, county emergency management and the DEC responded to a home after a homeowner discovered a package in the mail labeled “uranium.”
Police say it was purchased by a foreign exchange science student living there. It was mailed through the Postal Service.
Testing determined the radiological levels were not hazardous.
The vial was taken to Albany and turned over to the State Health Department.
