Residents on Helmi Drive in the town of Geddes, Onondaga County, will no longer have to go to a centralized box unit to receive their mail.
U.S. Rep. John Katko said Tuesday that the U.S. Postal Service will install mailboxes for 27 residential addresses on the street.
Katko, R-Camillus, was informed of the problem by Geddes Highway Supervisor Paul Trovato and Ed Weber, a Geddes town councilor. Residents complained that the centralized box unit was an inconvenience and required some residents, including seniors, to travel from their homes to the unit to pick up mail deliveries.
Katko’s office said Helmi Drive is the only street in Geddes with a centralized box unit.
