Hollywood Police and Fire Rescue responded to the scene along Washington Street and South 56th Avenue at around 4:30 a.m., Wednesday.
Authorities said the call originally came in as a disturbance.
“During the 911 call, they stated that they heard shots,” said a Hollywood Police spokesperson.
The victim’s sister, Victoria Bain, identified the deceased as 31-year-old Coretta Bain.
She said Coretta worked as a postal worker and now leaves behind three daughters.
“I just know that I lost a little sister,” Victoria said. “I don’t really know what happened. She got shot, from what I’m being told. I’m not sure if it was an altercation or what. She got three daughters, and I have to go and explain that mom is not waking up. She’s not gonna be back home.”
The sister went on to say that the subject fled in the victim’s black 2018 Nissan Maxima with dark tints.
“Honestly, I’m choked up with words right now,” another family member said. “She was a good mom [and] just got a job with the postal service.”
Family members said the shooting occurred inside her apartment, located on the second floor of the building.
