PMG discusses election with employees in Philadelphia

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy discussed the Postal Service’s important role in elections and thanked employees for their dedication during a recent visit to USPS facilities in Philadelphia.

“Our fellow citizens are counting on us more than ever. Delivering their ballots must be our top priority now and through the first week of November,” DeJoy told workers at the Philadelphia Processing and Distribution Center.

Across the nation, USPS is accepting, processing and delivering mail-in ballots from voters who are observing social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic. Throughout the organization, managers and supervisors are reminding employees of the importance of election-related mail, and USPS is providing extra resources wherever needed.

“I know you are committed to this mission. I appreciate that commitment, and I know you’re going to do a great job on the election for the American people,” DeJoy said.

This was the Postmaster General’s third tour of a postal plant since beginning his job in June. He previously visited processing and distribution centers in Houston and Richmond, VA.

In addition to the election, DeJoy spent time during his Philadelphia visit discussing the recent formation of the organization’s three business units, as well as the efforts to achieve operational excellence.

“We have to start processing mail and packages at the right time and finish on time,” DeJoy said. “Trucks need to leave on time — with all the mail on them. Carriers need to leave on time and return on time. I need your help with that. This plant has to keep improving, every day.”

The Postmaster General also discussed these themes during a visit to the Philadelphia Main Post Office, where he thanked employees for their work during the pandemic.

“Most of you have been here day in and day out during the pandemic,” DeJoy said. “The Postal Service is more important than ever, and the American people love you for what you are doing.”
