There were no injuries reported and, he said, no damage to any mail at the post office.
George Flood, a regional spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service, said no mail was affected and the post office expects to be open for business on Tuesday following the Veteran’s Day holiday.
Rome said the preliminary investigation, which is being conducted by the Wantage Fire Official and his office, shows the cause is “likely accidental; possibly electrical in nature.”
He said postal inspectors were at the scene Sunday afternoon and reported no damage to any mail, although there was smoke and water damage to the post office itself. Some of the damage is the result of firefighters pulling down parts of the ceiling and walls to be sure there were no hidden flames.
