Man accused of holding knife to postal worker’s neck

December 6, 2017

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — Police are investigating a reported armed robbery at the U.S. Postal office at 135 North Sierra Street. The emergency call for help was made Monday, December 4, at 1:53 p.m.

Responding police found an armed robbery in progress. Officers say Anthony Craig had entered the U.S. Post Office and jumped over the service counter. He then walked to the rear of the post office and approached the employees while holding a large knife.

Police say Craig held the knife to the throat of one of the employees and threatened to slit it if he was not given money.

A second employee was able to tell customers about the robbery. They were asked to leave and call 911.

Reno Police Officers Adam Jackins and Adam Blount were in the area and found Craig as he left the downtown post office building with a large knife. Craig complied with the officers’ commands and was taken into custody without additional incident.

During the subsequent investigation officers learned Anthony had been released from a Stockton-area prison the previous day. Craig told the officers he was serving a sentence for robbery, prior to his release. Craig purchased a bus ticket to Reno with his release funds.

Craig confessed that during the bus ride he planned to conduct a robbery when he arrived in Reno. After visiting several businesses, he decided to conduct a robbery of U.S. Post Office on Sierra Street.

He bought a large fixed bladed knife from a nearby business with his prison release funds and entered the post office, where he attempted the robbery.

Craig, 44, was arrested for Attempted Robbery with the use of a Deadly Weapon, and Burglary while possessing a Deadly Weapon.
