Webster Parish, LA — A 40-year-old man accused of driving while under the influence is now behind bars after a car crash that sent a mail carrier to the hospital.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Matt Harris said 40-year-old Jason Kidd of Stillwell, Okla., crashed into 53-year-old Sharon Vaughn of Shongaloo on Thursday shortly after 3 p.m.

Vaugh was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, which served as a mail truck, and was traveling south on state Highway 159 and preparing to make a left turn onto Highway 521 when she was struck from behind by a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Truck driven by Kidd, said Harris.

Vaughn was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. She sustained moderate injuries.

Kidd was restrained and reported minor injuries. Kidd was also impaired at the time of the crash, Harris said.

Kidd was booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on charges of DWI first offense, vehicular negligent injuring, driving under suspension and operating a vehicle with switched plates.
