Mail truck catches fire in western Elk River, MN due to leaking brake fluid

An officer for the Elk River Police Department pulled over United States Postal Service mail truck at about noon on Sept. 26 in western Elk River.

The mail carrier was not speeding, but rather had fire coming from the rear of the mail truck. The fire burned itself out and did not damage the mail in the back of the truck.

It was determined to be a broken brake line that was leaking fluid and had ignited the fire.

Elk River Fire responded and tended to vehicle and the driver, a 47-year-old Monticello woman, until the vehicle was replaced and removed from the scene so the route could be finished.
