Mail Carrier Hurt After Van Strikes Postal Truck In Northport

A mail carrier was airlifted to a local hospital after a postal truck was rear-ended in Northport on Wednesday afternoon.

According to fire officials, a United States Postal Service mail carrier was struck by a westbound van on Fort Salonga Road, between Makamah Road and Marcelle Court, at 1:30 p.m.

The impact of the crash caused the mail truck to be pushed forward about 100 feet, officials say.

Northport firefighters responded to the scene and immobilized the mail carrier to prevent a potential neck or back injury. The mail carrier was airlifted by Suffolk Police to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
