Google building in Sunnyvale evacuated because of suspicious package

SUNNYVALE — Authorities on Tuesday evacuated a Sunnyvale Google office building following the delivery of a suspicious package by the U.S. Postal Service, authorities said.

Fire and hazmat units were dispatched at 1:50 p.m. to the 1200 block of Crossman Avenue, said Capt. Jim Choi of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. The package contained an “unknown substance.”

As a precaution, authorities evacuated the building and summoned the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad, Choi said. The substance tested negative for explosives.

The U.S. Postal Service is leading the investigation, which is ongoing, but Choi said there is no threat to public safety.
