Cuyahoga Falls police to bait thieves with GPS tracked packages

November 13, 2017

CUYAHOGA FALLS: Thieves who steal packages off porches, purses from cars or bikes from front lawns in this city might find they took a little more than they bargained for.

Cuyahoga Falls police have started slipping tiny GPS trackers into or on random items left around town as bait.

Mayor Don Walters proposed the idea to Police Chief Jack Davis, and both men said they hope awareness of the program will deter thieves altogether.

“We want you to think twice if you’re going to grab something that isn’t yours,” Davis said.

Davis won’t say how many bait packages are out on any given day and declined to show what the devices look like so thieves won’t be able to spot them.
