Mail truck destroyed after catching fire on Chippenham Parkway

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) – The postmaster and the Chesterfield Fire Marshal are investigating, after a mail truck burst into flames.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday on Chippenham Parkway, near the Hull Street exit.

Investigators say the driver heard a noise while driving southbound on Chippenham Parkway. When he pulled over, he noticed a fire under the truck. Chesterfield Fire tells 8News the fire spread quickly, and the vehicle was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, according to officials.

Fire crews say the mail truck is a “total loss,” and some pieces of mail were destroyed. The driver was not injured, officials say.

  1. That’s what happens when you push those POS over 45 mph.

  2. There has to be something we can do as carriers to make the p.o. take action about this

  3. Did the carrier make it out safely?

  4. Death traps on wheels.

  5. How many does this make for 2018 so far?

  6. Haha. Fire department says total loss.. clearly they haven’t met our VMF, that thing will be rolling on the road again within a month ?

  7. They really need an urgency getting new trucks otherwise people will be driving their own cars again which will cost them

  8. Thank god, carrier not injured.
